About STUDIO PERCUSSION graz 

STUDIO PERCUSSION  graz  was founded in 1979 by Günter Meinhart and is one of the most well-known contemporary music ensembles. As well as performing the percussion repertoire of the 20th century, the ensemble specialises in cross-over projects. Since its foundation it has  worked with young composers, both from Austria and abroad, who have written and continue to write new works especially  for Studio Percussion graz.  Musicians and composers thus have the ideal forum for a mutual exchange of artistic ideas. Studio Percussion graz and / or its members, under the leadership of Günter Meinhart, are regularly invited to perform at festivals both at home and abroad. The standard six-strong ensemble, is sometimes swelled to ten percussionists or combined with other instruments.

 "Like the personal signature in the guestbook of a holy place, like Michelangelo´s Pieta in St. Peter´s in Rome - present even if one is gone, spacefilling, immobile, inspring - that ist what STUDIO PERCUSSION graz performances should be like. I want to hammer soundsculptures into the air which will still linger around in the room after the last listener has long left, the last box long been packed and the keys been turned in the keyhole - and the next day the question, what it was he listened to last night, should emerge in the listener." 
  
With its concerts, workshops and music presentations in schools throughout Austria, Studio Percussion graz has carved out a position
as one of the most lively presenters of contemporary music. Since 1993 the ensemble has run a percussion school in Graz.
