WHY IS THERE A CHOIR AT THE AUSTRIAN PERCUSSION CAMP?
Singing is one of the oldest forms of human expression. More and more research has been done on the positive effect that making music with your own voice has on body, mind and soul. What has been brought to light inevitably leads to the conclusion: regular singing is so healthy that it should actually be prescribed by your doctor! Singing is balance. Singing helps us find the beat again and soothes the vegetative nervous system. Singing sets us free. Singing brings balance to the soul. Singing is vitality. There are many reasons why singing makes you come alive, cheers you up, is so exciting. And the best is that it all happens automatically! I hope that the percussion won’t take a back seat to Rahela Durič, the rising star in the sky of choir directors.
Thomas Dietz is a professional juggler from Germany. He is considered to be the best technical juggler in the world and holds the world record for 5 club juggling of 53 minutes and 21 seconds as well as a series of inofficial world records. In 2015 he appeared as a guest on Stefan Raab’s TV Total.
He has his father to thank for it all. He would often juggle three balls in front of the family and amaze the relatives. At the age of five, Thomas stood up before an audience for the first time, demonstrating his artistry with three and four balls.
The years of training went on. There were more and more performances followed by training at the State Acrobatics School Berlin and being named world champion in juggling in Winston Salem, North Carolina, USA.
WHY SHOULD YOU LEARN HOW TO JUGGLE AT THE AUSTRIAN PERCUSSION CAMP?
Juggling is a skill that has been tried out by numerous peoples such as the Chinese, Indians or Aztecs at all times. The earliest known reference dates back to around 1800 B.C. A picture from Egypt found in the grave of Prince Beni Hasan shows four women juggling.
Juggling is very well suited to increasing physical and mental well-being. It encourages concentration, quickness of reaction, spatial visualization and a good feeling for time, rhythm and equilibrium. Through regular use of the muscles and the locomotor system, flexibility and endurance increase. Juggling also develops peripheral vision and trains coordination and perception.

DRUMLINE & GOSPEL DRUMMING
The name COLD STEEL is undoubtedly associated with one of the best drumlines in the U.S.A. They are the heartbeat of the North Carolina A&T University Marching Machine. Founded in 1985, the drumline has over 40 members and can make entire sports halls shake with its concentrated energy.
The COLD STEEL drummers have that certain something. They have the gimmicks, the tricks, the choreography and the technique that fosters it all. This art form has its place in American society, a little bit like hip hop.
It is not without reason that COLD STEEL along with PETER FOX have been highly successful. Lamon Lawhorn is the trainer of probably the best American drumline. Heads and feet are going to sweat.

CREATIVE PLAY-ALONGS – DRUMMING WITH ADELE, TOTO, JUSTIN BIEBER AND OTHERS
You know the situation: you are sitting behind the drums, drumming away by yourself but would prefer to be grooving with Beyonce, Bruno Mars or Stevie Wonder. This should change. Together we will find musical answers to the following questions:
What creative options are there for making percussion practice more interesting?
– Are there alternatives to a metronome for improving my timing?
– Where can I find appropriate play-alongs, and how can I use them better?
– How can I create my own loops and play-alongs?
These and many other questions will be answered in connection with groove, timing and musicality. With the motto “Move ‘n’ Groove”, Thomas Stabler offers short sport sessions on movement, strength, endurance, coordination and relaxation in relation to instruments to counteract the physical strain of drumming. You can be curious…
